As Tippi Hedren in The Birds
This costume won the Boybutante Halloween Costume Contest in Athens, GA many years ago.
THE IDEA
There is no idea here. This is a classic costume that tries to emulate the look of Tippi Hedren in Alfred Hitchcock's film, The Birds (based on the story by Daphne Du Maurier). This costume is often worn badly, so if you do it, put in some effort. If you can, get someone to tease the crap out of your hair and put it into a French twist. The hair makes a big difference, so if you're not blonde or can't get the French twist done, get a wig.
THE COSTUME
Once you find a green vintage suit with a skirt and buy some fake crows from a craft store, you are halfway there. I bought a cheap fashion backpack and cut away the front of the bag so that I was left with the straps and the part of the bag that rests on your back. I attached heavy wire through some grommets already on the bag, but you could punch holes to thread the wire through and use twist ties to secure the wires to the remaining backpack. (I used the same backpack in the Photo Booth costume and there is a photo of it at the bottom of that page.) Wearing a suit jacket holds the whole thing in place and gives support to the wires holding the birds. You can study photos from the film and put blood where you think it looks best. Also, a gay friend pointed out to me that through the whole film Tippi Hedren carries her purse, but I didn't even think about that. Done well, this costume gets a big bang for the costume buck.
